Day by day

A plan with room to wander.

Each day has one good shape, not a checklist. Choose the sights and meals that feel right in the moment.

  1. 01

    Thu
    Sep 17

    Boston

Arrive, settle in, and make the first evening count.

    Tonight: Boston Harbor Hotel

    In motion

Delta ATL → BOS, 8:30–11:08 a.m. Pick up the Sixt at noon, then allow roughly 20–35 minutes to reach the hotel and settle in.

    A good afternoon

    • Stroll the Harborwalk and North End after check-in.
    • Make the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum your cultural anchor if timing and tickets line up.
    • Use Jeremy's Boston 2026 map list for nearby ideas.

  2. 02

    Fri
    Sep 18

    Boston → Martha's Vineyard

Trade the city for an island afternoon.

    Tonight: The Charlotte Inn

    The transfer

Boston to Woods Hole is about 2 hours by car. Park the rental at Woods Hole, walk onto the ferry to Vineyard Haven, then allow about 20 minutes to The Charlotte Inn. Build the day around the actual sailing time.

    A gentle arrival

    • Walk Edgartown's harbor and its historic streets.
    • Save anything farther west for Saturday.
    • Ask the inn concierge for the best sunset walk after you arrive.

    Martha's Vineyard

Give the island a full, slow day.

    Tonight: The Charlotte Inn

    The driving loop

Plan roughly 1 hour 40 minutes of island driving if you go Edgartown → Aquinnah → Menemsha → Edgartown. That excludes the stops, which are the point.

    Choose two or three

    • Aquinnah Cliffs for the western-island landscape.
    • Menemsha for the fishing-village feel and a late lunch.
    • Edgartown harbor, Chappaquiddick, or a quiet beach walk closer to the inn.

    Dinner ideas

    • Keep The Port Hunter or 19 Raw as the strongest evening choices.
    • For a quieter night, let the inn steer you toward its current concierge favorite.
  4. 04

    Sun
    Sep 20

    Martha's Vineyard → Watch Hill

Make the transfer the only agenda before dinner.

Tonight: Ocean House · COAST at 7:45 p.m. is confirmed

    The transfer

Walk onto the Vineyard Haven → Woods Hole ferry, reclaim the rental, then drive about 2 hours 45 minutes to Watch Hill. With ferry check-in, crossing, and stops, hold 4½–5 hours door to door.

    Protect the evening

    • Use a confirmed morning ferry sailing, rather than trying to fit in a final island outing.
    • Check in, walk the Ocean House grounds, and keep the late afternoon deliberately open.
    • Do not count on an old, unverified cruise time when planning this transfer.

    Tonight

    • COAST, Ocean House, 7:45 p.m. confirmed.
    • For a lighter reset on another day, Ocean House also has The Bistro and Verandah Raw Bar.
  5. 05

    Mon
    Sep 21

    Watch Hill

Keep one full day close to the water.

    Tonight: Ocean House

    Stay local

No hotel change and no long drive. This is the right day for the beach, spa, lawn, or a late, quiet breakfast without a schedule.

    If you feel like exploring

    • Walk Watch Hill village and the lighthouse area.
    • Take the Napatree Point walk if weather and conditions are friendly.
    • Drive a short distance for a beach walk near Misquamicut.

    Food ideas

    • Ocean House's Verandah Raw Bar for an unhurried seafood lunch.
    • The Bistro for a more casual property dinner.
    • Olympia Tea Room in the village for a classic Watch Hill change of scene.

    Tue
    Sep 22

    Watch Hill → Newport

Arrive in Newport with time for the coast.

    Tonight: Castle Hill Inn

    The transfer

Watch Hill to Newport is about 45 minutes by car. Leave after a relaxed breakfast and plan to be at Castle Hill for its 3 p.m. check-in.

    A good Newport arrival

    • Take Ocean Drive and walk to Castle Hill Lighthouse.
    • Choose one: a section of Cliff Walk, the harbor, or the mansion district.
    • Let the hotel be the destination after your first look around town.

    Dinner ideas

    • Aurelia at Castle Hill for the most seamless anniversary dinner.
    • The Lawn Terrace for a lighter outdoor option if the weather is right.
  7. 07

    Wed
    Sep 23

    Newport → Boston → Atlanta

Finish with a calm morning, then go straight to the airport.

    Home: Delta BOS → ATL, 4:25–7:12 p.m.

    The important timing

Castle Hill to the Boston Airport rental center is about 1 hour 40 minutes without a traffic buffer. The car is due at noon, so leave well before the inn's 11 a.m. checkout or arrange a later return with Sixt.

    Morning only

    • Have breakfast at the inn and walk the grounds.
    • If you leave early enough, take one last pass on Ocean Drive.
    • Skip an in-town Newport plan. The direct airport drive keeps the day calm.

    One last meal

    • Enjoy the inn breakfast before departure.
    • Keep lunch flexible at Logan after returning the car and clearing security.
